Improving Work Spaces

Emily Boser - Thursday, March 24, 2016

At ER2’s Mesa location, we are going through some renovations. We want to continue investing in our Team Members and Partners. The goal is to provide even better environments for our staff to conduct meetings and/or presentations with each other or with our partners.

The latest room to receive some updates was our smaller upstairs conference room. We’ve removed the cabinets and repainted the entire room. Other new features include a new table, stools, and a television. The table we added is made of refurbished pallets from our very own warehouse - made tall enough for standing.

We also added a large picture of a forest. The purpose of this picture is to “see the forest through the trees”, meaning if you look at tasks one at a time one might not notice branches of separate “trees” go together to make a “forest”. In other words, look at the bigger picture.

This conference room will be used for interviews, meetings, and with the new television - we can use our webcam to have more personal meetings with our Memphis team, clients or prospects.

Responsible to Our Community

Emily Boser - Thursday, March 17, 2016

We are blessed beyond measure and too often forget about investing in others who really need it. We have been been searching for a cause that aligns with our vision, where we can give back and help others.

We recently took some time as a company to tour Helen’s Hope Chest here is Mesa, Arizona. They have a beautiful establishment that caters to foster families in need of clothing and toys for the additional children they may be supporting.

This isn’t a typical for profit clothing drop off point. It’s focus is to eliminate the cost of clothing for foster children as much as possible. This is an amazing ‘boutique’ style environment that allows foster families to schedule a time to pick out items for their children free of charge. It provides a place for foster children to escape the reality of being pulled from their homes, what they know, and refocus their energies in a fun and creative way. Items from Helen’s Hope Chest do not feel like ‘donations’. Instead, they make the kids feel as if they are being treated just like any other child Not only this, but it aids foster parents tremendously in the cost of adding another child (sometimes more) to the household.

Clothing is not the only thing that Helen’s Hope stocks, they have also created a beautiful toy room, shoe racks and more.

As we look further into building a partnership with them, we are encouraged to take what we have been given and bless others in need. Both with our time and resources we can impact our communities in positive ways, and that aligns with our vision perfectly.

Free Health Insurance for our Team Members? Yes!

Emily Boser - Thursday, March 10, 2016

In recent years providing health care coverage has become a growing necessity from employers to employees. Health care benefits can be an important component to any companies benefit package. Naturally, the better the package, the better the incentive for the employee to remain at the company.

Due to the requirements of current health care laws, every one is required to have their own health insurance, but too often we hear that cost is a major deterrent. We wanted to ease that monthly burden.

ER2 believes that our people are the reason we succeed in business. They are the pillars that hold our company up tall and strong. At the start of 2016 we took the initiative to invest in the future of our employees and provide all full time Team Members with new benefits. Our health care coverage includes; medical expenses, dental, vision, disability, and life. The most exciting aspect of this new benefit? We are covering our teams monthly costs!

Part of our vision is to ‘Be Responsible’ to our Team Members and this is one, very important, way that we can do that.

The Memphis Makeover

Emily Boser - Wednesday, March 02, 2016

As we are settling into our new building off of 4th Street in the inner city of Memphis, Tennessee, things are coming together. The look and feel of our company and brand has emerged and it’s exciting to say the least!

We have had many questions like why do you choose the buildings and locations you do? How do you counter the cost and time to reface these structures? All are valid questions and we answer them the same way we do with anything else.

We are responsible. We take the time to look at the resources and make smart spending decisions that allow us to save where we can. We make it a priority to utilize a lot of reclaimed materials to build out facilities and put our own sweat equity into it. We strategically select locations that may not be ‘prime’ real estate to others, but to us they are locations that will allow for regrowth in the surrounding community, and provide jobs to areas that need them.

And because we build out these structures with the collaborative suggestions of our team, they turn out stunning. Buildings that we are proud to talk about and excited to show off! Just as this was the case with our Worldwide Headquarters in Mesa, Arizona, so it is with our new location in Memphis, Tennessee.

Continuous Improvement is Where It’s At!

Emily Boser - Wednesday, February 17, 2016

To often we get in the rut of doing the same thing repeatedly, and soon we take the task at face value. It will always be this way, therefore I do not question how it is done.

A year ago we, as a company, challenged ourselves to think differently and it began with a concept called “Lean Thinking”. (Click here if you would like to know more about introducing lean thinking in a workplace environment.) The basic underlying thought was to ‘eliminate waste by continuous improvement’, and this idea radically changed the way we do things. Instead of being content with the way things are done we constantly look at ways we can improve our systems and processes.

Wherever we can see waste we find a way to eliminate it. We pose the same question to ourselves each and every day… “What drives me crazy about what I do?” Ironically it’s the simplest of things, like having to get up from a desk to find a stapler, or running out of power on a radio and forced to work without one while it charges.

These small but frustrating scenarios can be easily resolved by purchasing a stapler that stays on one’s desk, or carrying a back up battery for those that use their radios heavily. These remedies are what we like to call “2-Second Lean Ideas”. They save us wasted time, motion, over-processing and the list goes on. They are often overlooked because we fail to press pause, identify the issues and then engage is a creative thought process to find a solution. The key is that there is no solution too small. If it saves 2 seconds of your time, it’s worth it.

The value we have found in approaching our days with lean thinking cannot be underemphasized and the best part about it? Anyone can do it, anywhere! So test it out, whether you’re at home or in the office, find something that bugs you and think creatively on how you can improve it just a little. You’ll soon find the process fun and rewarding.

Global E-Commerce, Big for ER2 and Small Businesses

Chris Ko - Saturday, August 08, 2015

Chris Ko had the pleasure of speaking and presenting in a Webinar to discuss how global e-commerce is availble and in fact should be a focus for small businesses. We got to speak along with  Aparna Lahiri EBay's Manager of Global Shipping Platform and the US Department of Commerce. They have partnered to help increase global Small Business commerce. We are not experts by any means, but were happy to provide at the very least encouragment to other small businesses that it is obtainable and profitable.

A Visit From Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema

Emily Boser - Thursday, May 07, 2015

We were privileged enough to have Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema @RepSinema visit ER2 during Small Business Week. It was hustle and bustle through out the facility as we prepared for her arrival and it was a memorable experience for all our team members to have the chance to meet and interact with her.

As we led Congresswoman Sinema on the grand tour of our facility, we walked her through our not only our process, but how we genuinely make every effort to put our team members, partners, the community and the environment in the forefront of daily business. She was genuine and sweet and put every effort to mingle with our people.

After all the dust had settled and we were able to take a step back, we realized how much we had accomplished in such a short period of time prior to the Congresswoman's visit. The camaraderie that was built and the team work that took place to ensure we were putting our best foot forward and it would be a of significance for our guest, was incredible. So often we find ourselves in the busyness of each day, with the desire to be the best of the best. Our standard is excellence, in each and every aspect of our business. But it's visit's like this that we can really pause and see all we have accomplished as a team and company.

The growth of ER2 is incredible and we are so excited for whatever comes around the next corner!

What does Earth Day mean to you?

Emily Boser - Wednesday, April 22, 2015

The environment is always something that is at the forefront of everything we do here at ER2. Earth Day is every day for us! But we took some time today to ask our employees what Earth Day meant to them and how they see ER2 stepping up to the plate when it comes to protecting our environment. Enjoy, and Happy Earth Day!!
