3 Benefits of Corporate Garden

Emily Boser - Thursday, October 13, 2016

The temperatures are beginning to drop and for those of us at ER2 based out of our Arizona location, it's the perfect time to start our fall garden! We have had a lot of interest from our Team Members surrounding the garden and we believe it's our responsibility to demonstrate what we are protecting. Corporate gardens provide are great investments regardless the industry.

HighGrove.net put out a great article about the benifets of having a corporate garden that employees can be a part of.

Improved Memory

A University of Michigan study published in 2008 found that the more time spent outside in close proximity to plants can help increase memory retention by up to 20 percent. Studies have also shown that time spent in and around plants can increase an employee’s attention span and improve concentration as well as productivity.

Stress Reduction

Corporate gardens that encourage employees to prune, pluck or pick up a watering can play an important role in helping reduce an employee’s stress. Activities related to gardening offer those of us under stress a distraction and a way to divert our attention to something stress free and good for the environment — like nurturing a plant.

Follow a hummingbird from blossom to blossom, or stop and actually smell the roses — sometimes the visual stimulation from a professionally designed commercial landscape is enough to reduce stress and anxiety, too.

Encourages On-Site Team Building

Many employers will budget for team-building activities, most of which take place off site. Give them a reason to save on transportation costs and create a connection with your property. Just think about the team-building that can be accomplished — and community goodwill — by having raised beds installed to grow vegetables for the needy.

Effective Communication

Emily Boser - Thursday, September 01, 2016

  1.
  2. Communication in the workplace is inevitable, but effective communication in the workplace does not come quite as easily. It’s important to refresh our communication skills to ensure the cogs keep oiled and things continue to move forward.

What is communication?

  1. Communication is defined as the imparting or exchanging of information or news.

What are some ways in which we communicate?

  • • Listening
  • • Verbal
  • • Written
  • • Visual
  •

If we can agree that communication is both delivering information and receiving information it is helpful to remember a few things for both!

When delivering information remember to…

  •
  • • Recap the take away or important details
  • • Be aware of your body language
  • • Know what you want the other person to take away
  • • Understand the variable of interpretation
  • • Stay focused
  • • Ensure accuracy in statements
  • • Ask pointed questions
  • • Maintain correct influxes in your voice
  •
  •

When delivering information remember to…

  • • Regurgitate your take away’s
  • • Focus on the information being communicated
  • • Refrain from interruption
  • • Limit distractions
  • • Ask clarifying questions
  •

Over things to remember about communication…

• There are no stupid questions

  • • What you say is not necessarily what others hear
  • • None of us are perfect communicators
  • • Questions are good; when delivering or receiving
  • • People do not communicate in the same ways
  • • There is always room to improve our communication
  •

The takeaway…

Whether delivering or receiving information, reviewing and regurgitating that information will only improve communications!

2 Second Lean; Bringing it Home

Emily Boser - Thursday, July 28, 2016

As a growing business with one or two facilities you learn and pull concepts or principles from other companies that inspire you. You figure out what works and what doesn’t work, developing the culture as you go.

Larger companies like an Apple for example, have a main campus that serves as a corporate headquarter, training center and really an inspirational masterpiece for the rest of the company. It’s a place to recapture the essence of what makes the company great.

What’s really neat is being able to learn or adopt a concept from another company and then eventually visiting or touring their facility to immerse yourself in the experience.

This is exactly what we were able to do this past week. As part of our culture we’ve adopted a Lean Mentality. We strive to continuously improve, make changes and develop ourselves. We’ve used FastCap LLC as our guiding force and have taken the ideals that they live and breath daily, to develop our own journey at ER2.

A few of the leadership team headed up to Bellingham, WA and participated in a tour of the FastCap facility. There we were, standing in the middle of a company we have learned so much from, immersed in an extreme lean environment. Everywhere we looked, lean thinking was implemented, every person we talked to had lean concepts flowing through them. This was the Disneyland of Lean to us!

With the understanding that what works for one may not work for another, we were able to put together a list of take-aways, we recognized, that could make us and our team even better.

Bringing the excitement of Lean home to our facility has laid the groundwork for us to take the next steps of our Lean Journey, and we are thrilled for whatever comes next!

Your skills can make a difference!

Emily Boser - Thursday, July 21, 2016

Getting to know your team is vital to the culture and comradery of a business. Everyone has different talents and passions, it’s what make us all unique.

One of our Team Members, Steve, loves photography, especially nature photography, specifically birds. He spends well invested time waiting for the perfect moment to photograph these amazing creatures.

However, Steve does not just take these photos for his own pleasure, he’s made it a priority to find way to use his photographs to help others. Over past years, Steve has partnered with the Down Syndrome Network to donate some of his best work to their silent auctions. All the proceeds from the auction goes to the ongoing education, support and advocacy for individuals with Down syndrome.

The most recent donation he made was a company favorite of a fuzzy little duckling!

“I am super proud to have my work featured in the Down Syndrome Charity auction.” Steve said. “This will be the third year that I have participated in the auction as a contributing artist. It’s nice to be able to share my photography with others and help out a great cause all at the same time. DSNetworkaz.org is a great organization and this year we were proud to donate close to $30,000.00 to the Down Syndrome Network.”

For us at ER2, this is something we choose to encourage our team in. We want them to grow in their passions and continuously improve their skills.

We are so proud to have a wonderful group of people working together to make a positive impact on our communities!
