3 Benefits of Corporate Garden

Emily Boser - Thursday, October 13, 2016

The temperatures are beginning to drop and for those of us at ER2 based out of our Arizona location, it's the perfect time to start our fall garden! We have had a lot of interest from our Team Members surrounding the garden and we believe it's our responsibility to demonstrate what we are protecting. Corporate gardens provide are great investments regardless the industry.

HighGrove.net put out a great article about the benifets of having a corporate garden that employees can be a part of.

Improved Memory

A University of Michigan study published in 2008 found that the more time spent outside in close proximity to plants can help increase memory retention by up to 20 percent. Studies have also shown that time spent in and around plants can increase an employee’s attention span and improve concentration as well as productivity.

Stress Reduction

Corporate gardens that encourage employees to prune, pluck or pick up a watering can play an important role in helping reduce an employee’s stress. Activities related to gardening offer those of us under stress a distraction and a way to divert our attention to something stress free and good for the environment — like nurturing a plant.

Follow a hummingbird from blossom to blossom, or stop and actually smell the roses — sometimes the visual stimulation from a professionally designed commercial landscape is enough to reduce stress and anxiety, too.

Encourages On-Site Team Building

Many employers will budget for team-building activities, most of which take place off site. Give them a reason to save on transportation costs and create a connection with your property. Just think about the team-building that can be accomplished — and community goodwill — by having raised beds installed to grow vegetables for the needy.

A Fresh Start in a Rough Area

Emily Boser - Thursday, October 06, 2016

We were recently featured on News Channel 3 in Memphis, TN via an interview with our General Manger, Tyler Whitney. They put together a great video that does a really great job of laying out who we are and our vision to Be Responsible. Below is the article...

Click here to check out the video!

MEMPHIS, Tenn --"I had a friend I shared a vision with on how business and a social enterprise could pair up well together," said Tyler Whitney of ER2, Electronic Responsible Recyclers.

Chris Ko and Rick Krug, owners of ER2, have their base facility out of Pheonix, AZ. They recently began looking for another location further east to expand.

With access to many distribution points and great customer landscape they were able to settle on Memphis for their second base location.

They then decided to choose a location in Downtown to fulfill their company’s desire for sociality.

"Wanting to be in a community that needs some revitalization we bought an old abandoned warehouse and put a bunch of money, time, and effort into it," explained Whitney. He spoke about their vision of responsibility to their partners, their team members, their environment, and their community in the 38126 zip code.

"This area is really under served, not a lot of employment opportunities. So we give a lot of employment opportunities [to those] that aren't going to find it elsewhere," shared Whitney. He continued, "it could be from criminal records, poor education, [or] a lot of different reasons, but we take the best from the area to teach them and coach them and be patient with them to help build all aspects of their life."

With its recent reconstruction finished and their company in full swing, Whitney hopes to continue the growth in the company as well as the community. Since they opened for business in May they have grown from 1 employee to 20 with no signs of stopping.

ER2's main purpose is to partner with businesses that have old IT equipment that is on its way out or needs to be destroyed. Companies can arrange a pickup or drop off of the equipment and ER2 will recycle it in a responsible way. This could be refurbishing and reselling it or scraping it.

If they need to scrap a product they deconstruct it and sell off the commodities after pulling any data contained in the device. With all that done they can properly destroy the data and repurpose the equipment. At the end of it all, companies will receive an itemized inventory of the equipment to wipe from their books.

"It's exciting to see a lot of businesses, including ours, invest in the city, with time and money to see that this city is changed," said Whitney.

Effective Communication

Emily Boser - Thursday, September 01, 2016

  1.
  2. Communication in the workplace is inevitable, but effective communication in the workplace does not come quite as easily. It’s important to refresh our communication skills to ensure the cogs keep oiled and things continue to move forward.

What is communication?

  1. Communication is defined as the imparting or exchanging of information or news.

What are some ways in which we communicate?

  • • Listening
  • • Verbal
  • • Written
  • • Visual
  •

If we can agree that communication is both delivering information and receiving information it is helpful to remember a few things for both!

When delivering information remember to…

  •
  • • Recap the take away or important details
  • • Be aware of your body language
  • • Know what you want the other person to take away
  • • Understand the variable of interpretation
  • • Stay focused
  • • Ensure accuracy in statements
  • • Ask pointed questions
  • • Maintain correct influxes in your voice
  •
  •

When delivering information remember to…

  • • Regurgitate your take away’s
  • • Focus on the information being communicated
  • • Refrain from interruption
  • • Limit distractions
  • • Ask clarifying questions
  •

Over things to remember about communication…

• There are no stupid questions

  • • What you say is not necessarily what others hear
  • • None of us are perfect communicators
  • • Questions are good; when delivering or receiving
  • • People do not communicate in the same ways
  • • There is always room to improve our communication
  •

The takeaway…

Whether delivering or receiving information, reviewing and regurgitating that information will only improve communications!

Free Health Insurance for our Team Members? Yes!

Emily Boser - Thursday, March 10, 2016

In recent years providing health care coverage has become a growing necessity from employers to employees. Health care benefits can be an important component to any companies benefit package. Naturally, the better the package, the better the incentive for the employee to remain at the company.

Due to the requirements of current health care laws, every one is required to have their own health insurance, but too often we hear that cost is a major deterrent. We wanted to ease that monthly burden.

ER2 believes that our people are the reason we succeed in business. They are the pillars that hold our company up tall and strong. At the start of 2016 we took the initiative to invest in the future of our employees and provide all full time Team Members with new benefits. Our health care coverage includes; medical expenses, dental, vision, disability, and life. The most exciting aspect of this new benefit? We are covering our teams monthly costs!

Part of our vision is to ‘Be Responsible’ to our Team Members and this is one, very important, way that we can do that.

A Visit From Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema

Emily Boser - Thursday, May 07, 2015

We were privileged enough to have Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema @RepSinema visit ER2 during Small Business Week. It was hustle and bustle through out the facility as we prepared for her arrival and it was a memorable experience for all our team members to have the chance to meet and interact with her.

As we led Congresswoman Sinema on the grand tour of our facility, we walked her through our not only our process, but how we genuinely make every effort to put our team members, partners, the community and the environment in the forefront of daily business. She was genuine and sweet and put every effort to mingle with our people.

After all the dust had settled and we were able to take a step back, we realized how much we had accomplished in such a short period of time prior to the Congresswoman's visit. The camaraderie that was built and the team work that took place to ensure we were putting our best foot forward and it would be a of significance for our guest, was incredible. So often we find ourselves in the busyness of each day, with the desire to be the best of the best. Our standard is excellence, in each and every aspect of our business. But it's visit's like this that we can really pause and see all we have accomplished as a team and company.

The growth of ER2 is incredible and we are so excited for whatever comes around the next corner!
